Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is when laser light is tuned to specific wavelengths and frequencies and applied to an organism in order to stimulate metabolic processes at the cellular level. Laser light holds its intensity until it is absorbed by a medium; in the case of laser therapy, the medium is the body. The photon energy of laser light can effectively penetrate the skin and underlying structures, which accelerates the body’s natural healing process. Laser therapy utilizes the wavelengths and frequencies of visible red and near infrared (NIR) light to treat a variety of conditions at their source within the body through safe, non-invasive, and painless procedures.

The Impulse Adjusting Instrument®

Dr. Mathews uses the Impulse Adjusting Instrument® in the care of his patients. This patented and FDA registered device was specifically created to deliver gentle and precise chiropractic adjustments to the joints of the spine and extremities to relieve pain and restore function. The Impulse Adjusting Instrument® is controlled by micro-computer circuitry housed within the device that produces a controlled force that can be used to treat different areas of the body.

Dr. Mathews uses the impulse adjusting instrument in addition to his other methods of treatment.

Dry Needling Therapy

Dry Needling Therapy is a valuable treatment technique in managing chronic pain, acute pain, muscle stiffness and spasm, edema/swelling, and painful muscle trigger points. A thin, flexible, sterile needle promotes muscle relaxation, while increasing the ability of tissue to heal, and often results in pain relief.

Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner

Dr. Mathews has been a Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practioner since 1996. The Council on Extremity Adjusting recognizes that treatment of the whole body requires synchrony between the nervous system and the mechanical control system of the kinetic chain. Subluxations of any joint have both neurological and mechanical components. Many patients suffer repetitive subluxations and nerve entrapments because the mechanical component is ignored, leaving root causes undiscovered and untreated. Mechanoreceptors are embedded in the tissues surrounding joints. When these tissues get stretched by a misalignment of the joint this activates an inhibition or weakening of the adjacent muscle. Discovery of these weak muscles and correction of the misaligned joint to restore normal strength is our goal.

Fascial Distortion Model™

The Fascial Distortion Model (FDM), developed by Stephen Typaldos, D.O., is an anatomical perspective in which the underlying etiology of virtually every musculoskeletal injury (and many neurological and medical conditions as well) is considered to be comprised of one or more of six specific pathological alterations of the body’s connecting tissues (fascial bands, ligaments, tendons, retinacula, etc.).

FMT Level I, II Certified

Dr. Mathews received his RockTape certification in 2014. Fascial movement taping (FMT) is based on the premise that everything is connected. The function and condition of any muscle is also affected by the fascia surrounding the muscle, its connective tissues, its innervation and the other muscles involved in its movement. The most effective therapy and sports enhancement techniques no longer focus on a single muscle, but instead focus on the entire “movement chain” of muscles and their related tissues.

Diversified Technique

While a senior at Logan Chiropractic College, Dr. Mathews became one of the first teaching assistants in Diversified Adjusting Technique. He continues to incorporate this technique into his practice today. The Diversified manipulation/adjustment entails a high velocity, low-amplitude thrust delivered by hand. As the name implies, the Diversified Technique can be used to treat many of the joints in the body.

Flexion Technique

Dr. Mathews has been utilizing this technique since graduating from Logan Chiropractic College in 1989. Flexion Technique utilizes a flexion table to assist in spinal manipulation to relieve lower back pain, leg pain and a host of other spinal related conditions like disc herniation, spinal stenosis, post-surgical continued pain, and pregnancy related back pain.
